Stop-Loss Placement
Where to actually put your stop: below structure not below hope, giving trades room to breathe without giving away the account.
A stop-loss has one job: to take you out of a trade when your idea is proven wrong, at a loss you decided in advance was acceptable. Every other consideration — giving it room, avoiding market-maker games — is secondary to that job.
Place stops below structure: the low of the pullback, below the breakout level, beneath VWAP for a VWAP-hold trade. A stop placed at a random percentage with no relationship to the chart will get hit by normal noise. A stop placed below real structure only gets hit when the setup genuinely fails.
Size the position from the stop, not the other way around. Decide your dollar risk first, measure the distance to your stop, then compute shares. Traders who pick share size first and then squeeze in a stop always end up risking more than they intended.
