Reviewing Winning and Losing Trades
A practical trade review process: what to log, how to tag setups and mistakes, and how to turn a losing session into next month's edge. Includes a real session review.
Review is where traders are actually made — the market hours are just data collection. A useful review takes 15 to 30 minutes and answers three questions: did I follow my plan, what did the setups do, and what is one thing to improve tomorrow?
Log every trade with the setup, entry and exit reasons, planned risk, and result. Then tag the mistakes honestly: chased entry, moved stop, oversized, traded outside the plan. Patterns emerge fast — most traders discover that two or three repeated mistakes cause the majority of their losses.
The linked session review walks through a real red day trade by trade. Notice that the review focuses on process, not outcome: the goal is not to feel bad about losing, but to extract the one or two adjustments that prevent the same loss next time. A trader who reviews beats a trader who does not, even with identical strategies.
